How Long Does a Pole Spike Last?

Thanks to our resin-injected manufacturing process and the use of solid virgin fiberglass, Stayput Pole Spikes are built for long-term durability in harsh marine environments.

With proper storage and care, the average angler can expect 4+ years of reliable use  and in many cases, much longer. We’ve had return customers come back for their first replacement after six or seven years of heavy weekend use, often remarking that the original spike was still functional, just well-seasoned from years on the water.

What are StayPut Pole Spikes Made Of?

Our poles are made of 3/4" thick, solid, resin-injected fiberglass, the tip is tapered to a point for easy bottom penetration.

How do I know if StayPut pole spikes are compatible with my boat?

For boats up to 21 feet or 3,500 lbs, we suggest using any of our poles. For boats up to 24 feet, we recommend the shorter 6'–8' poles. Shorter poles offer increased stiffness and tensile strength, enhancing performance in shallower waters — especially when used on kayaks, paddleboards, microskiffs, and skiffs. To illustrate, consider a full-length pencil: it's easier to snap when long than when it's been worn down to a stub — the same principle applies here.

What Size Pole Spike Should I Purchase?

We get this question a lot, and the short answer is: one size doesnt fit all. Every Stayput Pole Spike has its own purpose and its own story.

We typically recommend asking yourself one question first:

“How deep is the water I typically anchor in?”

Once you have that answer, add 2 feet to it.

For example, if you usually fish in 8 feet of water, you’ll want at least a 10-foot pole spike. The extra 2 feet accounts for the mounting height above the waterline and gives you extra length to bite into the bottom, ensuring a solid hold even in wind or current.

6-Foot Pole Spike

Perfect for kayakers, paddleboarders, and micro-skiff owners who spend most of their time in super shallow, 2–4 foot water. Compact, lightweight, and easy to handle — it’s ideal for solo anglers who want quick, quiet anchoring without taking up deck space.

8-Foot Pole Spike

Our Swiss Army knife of pole spikes.

The 8-footer is by far our most popular model because it’s the most versatile. Designed around our modular system, the Super Handle allows for extensions to be added later — so you can start with 8 feet and build up as your needs change.

Great for flats boats, technical skiffs, bay boats, and jon boats fishing 4–6 feet of water. Common among anglers who fish Florida’s Indian River Lagoon, Mosquito Lagoon, Tampa Bay, or Texas flats where versatility matters most.

10-Foot Pole Spike

Our 10-foot setup is the 8-foot base spike plus a 2-foot extension. This length is popular among inshore anglers targeting redfish, speckled trout, and snook who typically fish in 6–8 feet of water but want that extra holding depth for tide or current shifts.

You’ll most often see it on flats boats, bay boats, and center consoles under 3,100 lbs across Floridas west coast and Texas coastal bays — places like Charlotte Harbor, Galveston Bay, and Matagorda.

12-Foot Pole Spike

The 12-foot spike combines our 8-foot base with a 4-foot extension, making it our longest and most capable option. This setup is ideal for anglers who regularly fish 8–10 foot depths, or want added reach for softer bottoms.

It’s a favorite among bay and hybrid boat owners under 2,900 lbs, especially those exploring deeper grass flats, shell beds, or channel edges in areas like Tampa Bay, Corpus Christi, and the Laguna Madre.

How are the 10' and 12' Stayput Pole Anchors constructed?

The 10' pole includes an 8-foot base and a 2-foot extension. The 12' pole uses the same 8-foot base with a 4-foot extension. This modular design makes both sizes easy to transport and assemble while maintaining strength and stability in shallow water.
